Bracken should have got a chance atleast this time , but again selectors have falied to select good players.

How have they failed??

Hilfenhaus and Bollinger are both good players, better then Bracken to IMO (in the long form of the game).

Completely disagree with you there!

Maybe I was being a bit liberal there, but my point was you want someone who can hit big scores (Symonds) or someone who can take bags of wickets (Flintoff), not someone who can chip in with a nice 30 or 40 and a couple of wickets every now and then, which is all I think McDonald will be capable of in the test arena.

Who knows though, he may hit a huge century or get 5 wickets in Sydney, in which case I'll gladly eat humble pie.

Yeah I can't see him troubling the saffers with the ball especially when Lee and Johnson struggled at the MCG.
But who knows maybe they will be under prepared.
I am not going to right him off with the bat just yet though.

Re: South Africa in Australia

Australia won the toss and elected to bat.

Currently the score is 0/49, Katich is on 35 and Hayden is on 11.

Re: South Africa in Australia

Hayden bats solidly for his 22 could be his day.

Need a big game from Hussey!

I don't think he has looked all that solid TBH.

I liked the tactic Smith employed to him just before the lunch with two me in short for the drive and also a mid on there to.
This tactic will work IMO if the bowlers can bowl fullish outside off to encourage the drive, they did and he left but it will be a battle

Re: South Africa in Australia

Hayden was bowled trying to play a drive very wide out side off for 31.

Australia are currently 3/129.
Hussey 30*
Clarke 8*

Re: South Africa in Australia

Harris comes on and gets Hussey caught in slip in his first over for 30.

Australia 4/130.

Re: South Africa in Australia

Harris hurt himself celebrating the wicket of Hussey and he's off the field. :D

McDonald came in ahead of Haddin, a very good decision.

Re: South Africa in Australia

Just a shocking shot from Hayden. Surely has to be done. Just go out now Haydo's and let others have a crack.

Disappointed to see Hussey go so softly.

not sure about that he has looked pretty shaky where as Haddin is a confident player.

Did you happen to consider that this is his debut and his playing a match to save australia's no.1 position, plus they are in a pretty tight batting situation at the moment?

And when did I say I had not considered that or that he shouldn't be nervous ?

Re: South Africa in Australia

McDonald gone for 15.

Australia 5/162.

Have you ever seen him bat for Victoria?

Yes and I have seen Haddin play for NSW and he is a much better player.

And he wouldn't have been nervous like that because he has had a relatively good series and played well.
