Re: Williamstown and District Cricket Association (WADCA)

Is there any truth in the rumour that Wyndham Vale have appointed PHIL CREA as coach for this season?

If so that would be a handy pick up for them as hes a qaultiy player even though he is about 40 years old..

haha, no truth to that at all

Phil won't leave Centrals this year, still aiming at a flag there. We'll have a younger side this year than we did last year aswell

Who is coaching Wyndhymvale this year??

surely not the same bloke who bowled first in the semi final against GU??

Re: Williamstown and District Cricket Association (WADCA)

yes, still the captain.

And who are you and what club do you play for? My guess is he's done more in his cricket career than you have ;)

Re: Williamstown and District Cricket Association (WADCA)

Preseason starts this Sunday for the A's.

How are other teams going for numbers? or is it still too early..

Have any teams scheduled in practice games yet?

We have a practice game against melton subbies and melton centrals in sept.

There is alot of clubs in the VTCA who have carried on far worse than GU in their time..
Its become an old wives tail about GU and their Rep..

Its tall poppy syndrome.. Alot of people like to be critical of clebs/individuals who have success..

VTCA clubs will always criticse GU for being the big fish! i can only iamgine that alot of clubs are jealous and would quietly regret moving comps!

Who can tell me exactly what GUCC have done wrong in the last 10 years?
Apart from a few incidinets in B matting, the A turf side has been clean.
The problem with the VTCA sides is they all went to the wrong league, and if they did follow GUCC they'd all still be jealous of the 7 in a row perhaps 8 this year.

Big Fish - Little Pond.
Must be fun belting up the same minoes every year.

Re: Williamstown and District Cricket Association (WADCA)

I don't look at the WDCA thread much but have been interested in reading the discussion about clubs going from WDCA/SCA to VTCA etc...

I think the dominance of Grand Utd in A-Turf has lead a few clubs into believing there is no 'light at the end of the tunnel' and that they'll play 2nd fiddle to them b'cos they're a very, very good side.

I've got nothing against GU, I think if they can continue to dominate then it's up to the other clubs to come to the party.

It's interesting to see West Newport heading back over to the Willy comp but they did finish above Westmeadows & Aberfeldie last season in Nth A1 and they tasted a premiership within a couple of seasons moving into VTCA.

Werribee Centrals have also had a premiership since moving to the VTCA and they could well have been back on their way to Nth A1 last season had they not lost a semi-final at home nobody thought they would drop. You might argue could they have been competitive in Nth A, and that's open to debate but most blokes play cricket to enjoy success & Centrals will start this season as 1 of the favourites in Nth B1.

And i'm sure you'd have a hard time telling the blokes who played in a premiership that it was the wrong decision to move. Some people never play in a Grand-Final.

Willy CYMS have made a very good fist of going into the VTCA & Seabrook played their first VTCA final since moving across about 6 or 7 seasons ago.

I think there's an argument for both sides but it's an interesting topic.

Another jealousd cricketer...

Maybe your club has just had no sucess in the past..

Re: Williamstown and District Cricket Association (WADCA)

i have been a reader of this for a while and now decided to post.

What is it with everyone and their complexes with GU?

Every club has eras of success.. GU are having that now. Alot of people probably wouldnt realise that GU went through the 70's, 80's and early 90's lucky to win one game every 2 years.. They were a rabble but have always been a tight nit club off the field..

They are having success now because they are a bloody good side.. over the last 6-7 years they have had 2 great opening bowlers, (as good as most getting around in local cricket), The comensoli brothers who have been fantastic bats over 20 years in senior cricket, and 2 good mates who are both great bats play their together since they were 13.
thats a pretty good base to build a good team around..

As for big fish in little ponds, this side would be a good side whatever comp they played in!
Its in the clubs best interest to play in the WADCA where their lower grades dont have to travle all over the place for a game of cricket.

Most clubs that left the SCA or the WADCA to go to the VTCA are now struggling for lower teams and juniors, ie. Druids, Albion, Sunshine YCW, Seabrook, West Newport (now back in VTCA) etc etc. Sunshine United arent the force they used to be.. All this while GU are winning premierships, their lower grade paly finals eack year and they have 5 junior sides..

Not bad for a club that everyones likes criticise!!

Good point you make there mate..
Good sides are built around solid players. The players you mention who have played there in all their premierships would be 2 opening bowlers, one opening bat, a No.3 and a No. 4 and a number 7 bat.. You only have to fill in a few others each year and that makes it easier to build a good team.

Re: Williamstown and District Cricket Association (WADCA)

Is anyone else aware of another team joining the comp? As per previous post we know West Newport are joining, interesting to see whos the other club.

Also merger talks might be back on the agenda between the churches and willi comp. Would the willi comp clubs be for it or against?

not bad idea but would churches sides be willing to play b turf and down not strong enough for a turf by long way

I think it would be Great.. that way there could be a serious 1st and 2 dvision comp for DIV 1 A Turf and DIV 2 A Turf.. have a relegation system..

People will probably say the churches arent as strong, and i agree with that, however the more competive sides in the compeltion the better the comp will be..

As long as they dont push for finals to be played on a Monday!

I have played in both comps and I think the top 3 sides of the churches comp (based on my opinion) St Johns, Williamstown Congs, and Melton Centrals would be very competative in A Turf straight up, im not talking about winning it by any stretch but would certainly compete against Gellibrand, Willi Imps, Footscray ANA, Hoppers and the like. I could forsee one of those sides winning an A Turf premiership within 5 years of competing in a merged comp.
