Re: Australia vs India - Border Gavaskar Trophy

I agree with you deer. Bhajji deserved to be punished if he was racist but without proof its very hard to believe that its true. If they show proof that Harbhajan was racist then I am happy that he got punished. I am happy that he didnt insult Lee because Lee is a great player and a very good person. If harbhajan insulted him he deserves to be punished.
It is in the news channels that Sachin sent a SMS to BCCI that Harbhajan is not guilty. Well the news channel say lies a lot of times but if this is true I will believe it 100% because Sachin wont lie like that.

Re: Australia vs India - Border Gavaskar Trophy

Again i cant disagree with either of you on that, but the story i heard was that Sachin wasnt within hearing distance of the incident, he only came over to calm things down. But i would believe him if he said that Harbhajan was not guilty because i believe he is more truthful than most people.

Its surprising to think that Brett Lee is actually such a good bloke, especially since he is a fast bowler who doesnt mind trying to bounce someones head off! But i dont think Harbhajan meant anything by that slap on the bum, certainly not an insult

Well said deer, maybe it was just a case of both of them over-reacting, it doesnt condone racism but it was stupid what both of them did. But i cant agree that Symonds broke the rules untill i can see what happened when he said something, i saw when Harbhajan called him over and from then on so im not in the best position to say if Symonds did anything wrong

i didnt see anything where symonds did wrong too but maybe the cameras missed that. but why would a batsman call a fielder like that to sledge at him. he must have been provoked. but it was very disrespectful of harbhajan to do that.
symonds said this.

"I was standing nearby and when I saw what happened, I thought, 'Hold on, that's not on'. I'm a firm believer in sticking up for your team-mate so I stepped in and had a bit of a crack at Harbhajan, telling him exactly what I thought of his antics. He then had a shot back, which brings us to the situation we're facing."

so by that i think he said something to harbhajan first then after the over ended that ugly incident happened. thats why i think symonds has some part too. thats what i got from that. i dont know if i am right. i am just speculating because the cameras didnt show anything but then again they didnt show harbhajan calling symonds a monkey either.
i still believed that harbhajan should be punished be not as severly and not for racism without proof.

Re: Australia vs India - Border Gavaskar Trophy

Whoops, sorry forgot about that part of the article. Maybe the ICC should hand down fines and warnings to the both of them and let them concentrate on the up coming test. and also make them apologise to each other so they can concentrate on winning the test

maybe this is the reason for stump mics to be left on permanatly, if just to discourage people from saying racial slurs

Re: Australia vs India - Border Gavaskar Trophy

I have seen the footage of what happened and it seems that the only two people that know what happened are Harbhajan and Symonds. Sachin wouldn't have heard much. I guess what Sachin means that there was no racial comment from what he heard. Again I wouldn't believe what the news channels are saying. Their sources cant be trusted. If Sachin did send a SMS to BCCI, its disgraceful that some BCCI official has leaked the contents to a news channel in exchange for some money.

Re: Australia vs India - Border Gavaskar Trophy

Yeah only 2 people know what exactly happened, and i cant say that i fully trust what either of them said. the only thing i can believe is that a confrontation occured and thats it. I dont think everyone will be happy whatever the end result will be

That would be a fair decision. We need to get past this incident as soon as possible. Sachin has said that to BCCI as well.

Yeah bcci always do such stupid things. Remember when Chappell sent emails to BCCI they would always get leaked.

Re: Australia vs India - Border Gavaskar Trophy

lol you cant expect bcci to be professional. they didnt even file a complaint against the umpires and now icc says that the same umpires will stand in the next test. i really hope the tour continues. although i dont like harbhajan being called racist the ban for harbhajan is good as he would be useless at perth. but as zaheer and sreesanth are ruled out, munaf patel is missing we have little choice.
i dont know why pathan isnt playing. is he injured? or selectors have no faith in his that they gave ishant sharma a chance ahead of him? sharma isnt a better bowler than pathan and will never be.

Re: Australia vs India - Border Gavaskar Trophy

I was quite shocked when I tuned into a news channel and saw this picture.

Its the picture of the Hindu God Hanuman, who is a monkey, with Symonds face on it. I am not a religious person, but that is a big insult to Hindus. According to the report, it was in some Australian newspaper.
I don't think this will help in reducing the tension between the two countries.

Andrew Symonds look's "Cute" in the Hanuman(Monkey God) out-fit.
Good one where did u get this picture;Someone should slip this picute into Andrew's Closet and write on it: With Love from Harbhajan :D

Re: Australia vs India - Border Gavaskar Trophy

Well its been confirmed, the BCCI has suspended the tour of Australia till the ICC reviews the appeal against Harbhajan.

Someone really needs to step in soon otherwise this is only going to get more and more out of hand, which i shudder to think how that could be.

Re: Australia vs India - Border Gavaskar Trophy

Only the officials of ICC,BCCI and Cricket Australia can sort it out.
Players of both the teams are sticking to their statement so a compromise is least expected from them.
The board officials can sort out all the differences and hopefully cricket starts as per the schedule.

I captured that image from my TV. I don't know the whole story but it allegedly appeared in some Australian newspaper.

Re: Australia vs India - Border Gavaskar Trophy

how can they do this? this is downright disrespectful to our religion. i am shocked to hear that it could make its way to a news paper. this is bigger than racism. i hope the paper apologizes for this and whoever made it deserves to be punished. symonds is not too liked by the people in india because he ridiculed indias twenty 20 world cup victory celebrations so people will be enraged to see him as a god.

Re: Australia vs India - Border Gavaskar Trophy

I finally managed to read the headline that is shown below the image. It says 'Symonds shown as Hanuman on Courier Mail's website'. I haven't been able to find the image on their site but found an article about it. I think someone made that image in reply to that article by photoshopping a picture of Hanuman which is very sad and disrespectful.

Re: Australia vs India - Border Gavaskar Trophy

monkey is a compliment to symonds?? im not so sure harbhajan and the indian crowd was complimenting symonds. thats really stupid thing to say. that does not justify insulting a god but they brought it upon themselves by saying that its a compliment.

Re: Australia vs India - Border Gavaskar Trophy

Not really. You should read the full article. Nowhere in the statement given by Mr Raj Natarajan it was stated that monkey is a compliment. He just said that one of the Hindu gods is a monkey and it is not a offensive word for Indians, which is true. The headline does not give you the right picture. It seems to me that they are just trying to make money off it.
If that image appeared on Courier Mail's website, I think they owe an apology to Hindus.

Re: Australia vs India - Border Gavaskar Trophy

Its all blown out of performance and once again cricket has become a laughing stock. I find it shocking that in a game where Symonds doesnt walk when he edged behind and went on to get a big score he decides to appeal for a ball that clearly hit the pad and not the bat for a catch behind. The guy is a disgrace and if he didnt get enough luck in the game he's decided to take a comment which may or may not have happened and blown it out of proportion. Cricket has once again become a shambles.

Re: Australia vs India - Border Gavaskar Trophy

Without wanting to play down racism, part of my does feel that Symonds is either overly sensitive to the term of monkey, failed to understand context that it was used in this case or is using it to his advantage.

Of course, in the context of UK (probably even Western) culture he has every right to be offended by the term and I'm sure that in light of the incident when Australia toured India recently the Indian team would be have been fully aware of the possible ramifications of uttering that term but it takes two to tango.

We are all guilty of letting our mouths run away with us in the heat of the moment and I honestly feel that this is the case here. Singh was worked up, facing a bloke bolwlng at a good pace, in a tense match etc. The adreneline was flowing and in the heat of the moment he siad something he shouldn't have.

It seems that it was a silly little spate that has totally blown up, when it may have been better dealt with by the umpires, captains and involved parties at the end of the days play.
